FCBA Youth Forum 2009

On Sunday, August 9th 2009, the FCBA will be holding a Youth Development Forum, in the Co-op Hall, Cowdenbeath. This is part of the FCBA's commitment to assist all member bands to develop fully, and the association's aim that all member bands have a thriving youth policy to secure their future.

The forum will take place from 12.30 - 4pm. A buffet lunch will be provided from 12noon.

Purpose of the Forum

The purpose of the forum is to bring together all the FCBA member bands to discuss and share their experiences of youth development. Some bands have a growing youth setup, other bands are in the early stages of setting up their youth policy, and some are facing problems with getting a policy off the ground. By sharing the successes and problems, we hope all member bands can gain something from this forum, and all bands can progress their youth development further.

Guests

The FCBA have invited the following four people along to contribute to the forum -

  • Alan Edmond - SBBA Youth Development Officer
  • Kenny Crookston - Editor of the "British Bandsman"
  • Malcolm Kirkpatrick - Instrument Supplier, The Wind Section
  • TBA

    Format

We are asking each band in turn to give a small presentation, outlining the state of their current youth setup, highlighting useful things they have done, or problems they have been facing. Following the presentation, general discussion between the bands and our guests will take place, allowing a sharing of knowledge and experience. As part of the afternoon forum, each of our guests will be invited to talk to the band delegates, and be open to questions.

    Resources

Bands can deliver their presentation in any format, and in as much detail as they like. A laptop and projector will be in the hall, and bands will be encouraged to use this. Any necessary files can be brought on CD or USB Drive, or emailed to the FCBA Secretary before the event.
