Dunfermline Town Band was established in 1882 after money was raised at a bazaar to buy a set of instruments. Since then the band has been part of the local community taking part in parades, concerts, and contests, local and national.

Over the years the band has played in all sections of the contesting circuits and, in 1992, the band's centenary year, they performed in concert with Don Lusher and Alistair McDonald in the Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline.

In 1993 the band eventually moved to it's own premises in Dunfermline.

In 1999 the Scottish Arts Council awarded the band a lottery grant of 65,874 to purchase new instruments.

The year 2004 was particularly exciting for the band, when they achieved first place at the Scottish Championships held in Motherwell which brought them up to 3rd section and they competed in the National Championships in Harrogate that year in September.

There is a wide range of ages in the band and there are also retired players in the band. Most players live locally but we have a few players who travel from further afield.
